LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen will discuss the possibility of repairing a century-old, clay sewer main on Depot Street at their meeting Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. Storms the past two Tuesdays have forced meeting cancellations.

Ted Berry Co. Inc. of Livermore, which specializes in several services, including video inspections and trenchless technology repairs, has been cleaning and inspecting sewer lines in parts of the town. Inspectors discovered a clay sewer main that connects to a cement pipe under the railroad track crossing is starting to collapse.

“This, to me, needs to be addressed,” Sewer Department Superintendent Greg Given said Tuesday.

Sewage from multiple streets runs through the main and eventually goes to the treatment plant on Foundry Road.

The old line is between the manhole near Stretch-It body shop at 40 Depot St. and the manhole near the intersection of Pleasant Street/Route 133, Given said.

Town Manager Stephen Gould said it’s unknown how long the main has been damaged.

Selectmen will discuss funding options, if it’s determined repairs are needed immediately.
