GWINN, Mich. — Lance Mark Porter Jr., 54, of Gwinn, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 17, 1965 in Rumford, Maine, the son of Lance M. and Dawn (Jamison) Porter, Sr. He was raised there and was a 1983 graduate of Rumford High School.
Mark enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a bomb loader during Panama, Operation Desert Storm and the war in Afghanistan. He retired after 20 years with the rank of Master Sergeant in 2004 and had earned numerous awards and honors.
On July 12, 1986 he married Jill Delmont at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Following his military career, Mark was employed at Superior Excrusion and CCI until health problems forced him to retire.
Mark was a member of the American Legion Little Lake Post and enjoyed hunting, camping and collecting guns.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Porter of Gwinn; son, Andrew (Tricia) Porter of Gwinn; grandchild, Scott Lance Porter; mother, Dawn Richard (Sonny Downs) of Carthage, Maine; sisters, Kathy (Bruce) Hutchinson of Carthage, Maine, Lorna (Mike) Burhoe of Jay, Maine and Landrea (Bill) Blouin of Rumford, Maine; mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Willie Delmont of Little Lake, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law, Julie (Doyle) Richards of Little Lake and Scott Delmont of Green Bay, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, James Porter.

Interment in the spring will be in St John Cemetery in Rumford, Maine. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
