Society offering booklet on doctor

LEEDS — The Leeds Historical Society has published a booklet based on the program presented this summer on D.F.D. Russell, M.D.

Cost is $5 a copy at the Town Office. Other items will also be available for purchase.

The society will host a program in the spring by Lew Alessio about Lane’s Store, which was located in Leeds Center. Although various people have items from the old store, there aren’t any photos of the interior. Anyone with photos who would be willing to allow the society to scan them can contact Pam Bell at 207-933-4121.

OES to hold final meeting of 2018

WAYNE — Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will hold its Stated Meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Grange-Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

After a pot luck supper at 6 p.m., chapter members will share Christmas traditions and memories. Officers are requested to wear a dress/sports jacket and slacks or dark suits as are appropriate. It will be the last meeting of the year as Lakeside recesses in January and February.

The annual meeting and election of officers will be held on March 12, 2019, preceded by a potluck supper at 6.

Fly tying demo, discussion at library

AUGUSTA — The Lithgow Public Library will hold a fly tying demonstration and discussion at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the library at 45 Winthrop St.

Local fly-tyer and experienced fly fisherman, Brian Bossie, will talk about the required supplies, what materials and designs work best for which conditions and will do a demonstration. This event is free and open to the public.

VFW hosts New Year’s Eve party

JAY — The VFW Hall will hold a New Year’s Eve party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31, hosted by VFW AMVETS and Hillside Sports Club.

Music will be performed by Wonder Bread, and also to be featured are Pat Libby, Kyle Melcher and Holly Bonnevie. Tickets are $15 for singles, $20 for couples. A buffet will be served.

Wayne library to host fireside chat

WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library, 17 Old Winthrop Road, will host a Fireside Chat with Wayne author Bobby Charles at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.

Robert “Bobby” Charles will read portions of the Christmas story from his recently released book, “Eagles and Evergreens,” chronicling life around Wayne 50 years ago. He will also read a few recently minted Christmas poems, and then talk about the idea of writing. There will be hardcovers and paperbacks available for purchase. The talk will be followed by a reception at the Williams House featuring light refreshments.
