OTISFIELD — The annual Lisa Bean Memorial Tree Lighting is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Community Hall, 292 State Route 121.
The ceremony is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m.
Administrative assistant Anne Pastore said Fire Chief Kyle Jordan will bring Santa Claus to the tree by fire truck, and that Santa will then “magically light the tree using his special tree-lighting dust.”
“The kids love it,” Pastore said. “After that, the kids might sing around the tree a little bit. Then they can come inside for hot cocoa and have their picture taken with Santa.”
The ceremony, held for many years at the Otisfield Town Office, was moved to the Community Hall in 2016.
The ceremony is a memorial to Lisa Rae Bean-Thurston, who died at 25 while delivering a child in March 1992.
The tree, which is lighted every year, is known as the Lisa Bean-Thurston Memorial Tree. It was gifted to the town by the Grover-Bean family in 1992 to honor Bean-Thurston.
Pastore said those who want to volunteer at or bring baked goods to the ceremony should call the Otisfield Town Office at 207-539-2664.
