AUBURN — Gavin Toussaint stopped all 13 shots he faced as Edward Little blanked Portland, 3-0, in Class A hockey action on Wednesday night.

Ben Lane-Robichaud gave the Red Eddies the only goal they would need 1:24 into the game. Toussaint made several big stops, including one on a Bulldogs’ breakaway, over the remainder of the period to preserve the lead.

Aaron Perkins added an insurance goal 1:08 into the second period and Ben Cassidy completed the scoring with a goal in the third for the Red Eddies (2-0).

Ben McCallum made 14 saves in net for Portland/Deering in its season opener.

Lewiston 6, Cony 2

LEWISTON — Ryan Pomerleau notched two goals to lead Lewiston to a 6-2 victory over Cony in the Blue Devils’ season opener at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Caden Smith had a power play goal and two assists for the Blue Devils, while Tyler Marcoux added a goal and an assist. Willie Blanchette and Logan Tripp scored the other Lewiston goals. Jacob Smith picked up the win in net.

Reid Hopkins led Cony with a goal and an assist.

St. Dom’s 4, Thornton Academy 3

AUBURN — Thornton Academy made it close, but St. Dom’s pulled out a late winner to grab the 4-3 win on Wednesday night in boys’ hockey at Norway Savings Bank Arena.

The Saints (2-0) got on the board after a Thornton Academy (1-1) goal by Liam Nash when Will Fletcher scored his first of two goals on the night to tie the game in the second. Matthew Fletcher followed, then Derek Wolverton and St. Dom’s held a 3-1 lead midway through the third period.

Thornton’s Luke Chessie and Ofkari Juntunen scored back-to-back goals in the third within a minute of each other to tie the game at three before Will Fletcher won it with six minutes remaining in the game.

Seth Dube saved 21 shots for Thornton in the loss while Gaston Fuksa saved 51 for the Saints.

Girls’ Hockey

Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland 4, Portland/Deering 0

AUBURN — The Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland Red Hornets took care of business on Wednesday in a 4-0 win over Portland/Deering.

Leading the way for the Red Hornets was Taylor Cailler, who scored one goal in each period for a hat trick. Isabel Berube scored the final goal for the Red Hornets.

Sophie Hartley, Cassady Bussiere and Caroline Tracey all assisted on goals.

Boys’ basketball

Winthrop 55, Monmouth 38

MONMOUTH — Winthrop out-scored Monmouth by nine in the third quarter to pull away for a 55-38 road win on Wednesday night in boys’ basketball.

Cam Wood paced Winthrop (3-0) with 21 point,s followed by 11 each from Jevin Smith and Jared McLaughlin.

Monmouth (1-2) was led by Connor Davies who scored 15 in the defeat. Trevor Flanagan chipped in nine of his own.

Mountain Valley 94, Telstar 22

BETHEL — From start to finish Mountain Valley led the Telstar and won convincingly 94-22 in boys’ basketball Wednesday night.

Mountain Valley (3-0) jumped out to a 28-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Falcons received points from 12 different players on Wednesday as Casey Cormier led the way with 17 points. Elijah Weston scored 15, followed by Cam Godbois’ 14 and Keegan Davis’ 10.

Telstar (0-3) was led by Brayden Stevens who scored 11 for the Rebels.

Boothbay 71, Mt. Abram 38

SALEM — Hunter Crocker had 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter as the Seahawks (2-0) used a 22-6 advantage to break open a contest that was tied at 10-10 through the first quarter as they cruised past the Roadrunners (0-3).

Kenyon Pillsbury had 12 points to lead the way for Mt. Abram.

College basketball

CMCC 66, SMCC 53

AUBURN — Central Maine Community College limited Southern Maine Community College to 0-for-10 shooting and just five points from the free throw line to pull away with a 66-53 victory in a clash of YSCC women’s basketball powers.

Jordyn Reynolds tallied 18 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks to lead the way for the Mustangs (12-1). Alex Bessey added 14 points and Natalie Thurber 11 points for CMCC. Amanda Brett had 19 points to pace SMCC. 

CMCC came into the game ranked No. 1 in the nation. SMCC was ranked No. 4.
