TURNER — The School Administrative District board of directors hired a slew of spring coaches and extended the superintendent’s contract two more years at its meeting last week.

Superintendent Kimberly Brandt’s contract had been set to expire in June 2022. She’s been with the district nearly three years.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” she said. “I feel like it’s a good fit.”

Brandt’s salary for the year starting in July 2019 will be taken up at a board meeting in January.

Also at the meeting Thursday at Leeds Central School:

• The district decided to apply for Volkswagen emission settlement funds that its hopes may pay for up to two buses.

• The budget booklet is getting a makeover before it goes to residents next spring. The goal is to help people understand what the figures mean and what’s being asked for, Brandt said.

• The board created a new van driver position, hired a new foreign language teacher for Tripp Middle School — the position has been covered by a substitute — and hired 12 coaches.

It also hired a bus driver, leaving just one bus driver position to be filled. There had been a high of seven vacancies at the start of the year.

• The Leavitt Area High School Ski Boosters donated $12,000 to purchase a snowmobile to groom the trails for the cross-country ski team.

• After more than seven years, Robert Allen of Leeds, the board vice chairman, resigned from board.

“He does a lot of work and gives a lot of time,” Brandt said. “Sometimes our family lives demand more of our time.”

Leeds will name an interim board member soon.
