JAY — Two people were arrested on drug-trafficking charges Thursday after agents found what they suspect was crack cocaine and heroin at a home on Belanger Road, according to a police affidavit.
William Farnam, 32, of Jay and Denise Grant, 39, of New Sharon were each charged with two felony counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, according to law enforcement officials. Drug agents said Grant has been staying at Farnam’s home at 43 Belanger Road, which is off East Jay Road.
A Franklin County judge set bail Friday at $10,000 cash each. A conviction for felony drug trafficking is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
The arrests followed a monthslong investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, assisted by other agencies. Several sources provided information to agents and police that Farnam and Grant have had out-of-state men staying at the house while Farnam and Grant sold the men’s drugs, according to the affidavit filed with the court.
Agents found a safe containing about 18 grams of suspected crack cocaine and about 10 grams of suspected heroin. They also found crack pipes, needles, scales, baggies and firearms, according to the affidavit.
Farnam told investigators he was a drug addict and had been selling crack and heroin from his home for several months, according to the court document. He also told investigators he had out-of-state men bringing drugs from New York to his home and he and Grant would sell them to locals. He told them the drug suppliers would sell from his house and he would get a few bags of drugs a day, which included heroin and crack. He would also receive more free drugs after selling a certain amount, according to the affidavit.
Grant told a drug agent she used the drugs and was not involved in dealing them but knew it was happening, according to the affidavit.
Another woman at the house told investigators she was contacted by Farnam to perform sex acts for drugs. She told investigators she bought drugs from Farnam and the only reason she was at the house was to get high on his drugs, according to the affidavit.
