Library to celebrate poet

WATERFORD — A celebration of American poet Mary Oliver will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Waterford Library, 663 Waterford Road.

Attendees are invited to bring their favorite poems to share and discuss. The public is welcome.

Snowmobile club to meet

NORWAY — The Norway Trackers Snowmobile Club will meet Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Town Hall.

A potluck dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. and a business meeting held at 6:45 p.m. Anyone interested in snowmobiling is welcome to attend.

Society to hold archives open house

NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society Archives Open House will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road, next to the Town Hall.

All interested genealogists and family historians are welcome. The event is free and open to the public.

Rumford Seniors spring trip

PERU — Members of Rumford Seniors on the travel team voted to sponsor a bus trip to Washington, D.C., from April 25-May 1.

The cost is $659 for seven nights and six days, double occupancy. Reservations for 30 travelers must be made by Feb. 30. Brochures and itinerary are available at the Senior Center at 30 Main St.

Grants program seeks applicants

ELLSWORTH — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that strengthen communities are encouraged to apply to the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

The deadline for applying is Friday, Feb. 15. Application, guidelines and a list of 2018 grants are available at www.mainecf.org.

The Western Mountains Committee is made of volunteer-based residents and business leaders of Franklin and Somerset counties. The committee reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The Western Mountains Fund was launched in 1992, and the committee has awarded more than $1.8 million in grants. In 2018, more than $66,000 in grants went to nine nonprofits.

Monthly open observatory nights

NORWAY — The Twitchell Observatory is offering Open Observatory Nights on the first clear Friday and/or Saturday night of every month.

Volunteers share the sky with visitors using the observatory’s telescope, as well as their own. These events are free.
