Library to hold Scrabble tourney
AUGUSTA — A Scrabble tournament will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop St. The snow date for this event is Saturday, Feb. 23.
The tournament is being hosted by the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Augusta. Preregistration is required. Interested folks can visit the library or call 207-626-2415.
Folks who enjoy these tourneys are invited to join the Literacy Volunteers for their 12th annual Team Scrabble Tournament from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 7. Competitive and social teams are encouraged to sign up.

School vacation activities at library
FREEPORT — Freeport Community Library will have activities scheduled for February vacation week.
• Tuesday, Feb. 19, our Maker Cart will be out from 1 to 3 p.m. for ages 4 and up;
• Wednesday, Feb. 20, LEGO Club will meet from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. for ages 5-11;
• Thursday, February 21, Crafting Stories with Ali is from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. for ages 3-5; and
• Friday, Feb. 22, Animated PG lunchtime movie from noon to 2 p.m. Bring a lunch to this family event.
Adult supervision required for children under 11.

Full moon snowshoe hike
JAY — A full moon snowshoe hike at French’s Falls will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at French’s Falls. The hike is hosted by Androscoggin Land Trust and the Jay Recreation Committee.
The riverside trail will give folks an opportunity to see the moonlight on the river and through the trees. There will be a fire near the trail entrance. There is a parking lot along the ball field at the end of French Falls Lane and everyone will meet there at the trail entrance.
Those attending need to bring snowshoes, headlamp/flashlight, poles (optional), water and a snack, and warm clothing (layers suggested). There will be some snowshoes available for people to borrow if possible, contact in advance to reserve a pair.

Library to host ecomaine talk
FREEPORT — China and its complex social, economic, environmental and political affairs, as well as its relations with Asian neighbors, the U.S. and the international community, is the subject of the 32nd Camden Conference. There will be a talk presented by ecomaine, “National Sword: The Price of Contaminated Recycling” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Freeport Community Library.
In 2017, China enacted its “National Sword” policy, effectively banning the import of recyclable materials from across the globe. Once the world’s leading importer of these materials, China has sent shockwaves through the recycling and waste management industry. Maine’s leading recycler, ecomaine, will present on how things got where they are, what’s happening now and the future of waste management, from Augusta to Zhuhai and beyond.
