Lifetree explores extraterrestrial intelligence
LEWISTON — Whether intelligent life exists in other places in the universe, and what the search for that life is revealing, will be discussed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Lifetree Cafe, 1919 Lisbon Road.
The program, titled “We’re Not Alone? The Search for Intelligent Life on Other Planets,” features a filmed interview with Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the SETI Institute and author of “Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist’s Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.”
Admission to the 60-minute event is free.

Society announces February program
NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society will hold “Tales from the Vault,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, next to the Town Hall on Route 231.
Using materials from the society’s archives vault, a film on the town’s history was created, ranging from settlement days to the 20th century.
Refreshments will be served. Thes event is free and open to the public.
Medicinal herb class
LEWISTON — A free class titled “Power of Medicinal Herbs” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at The Olive Branch Cafe, 791 Lisbon St. The class will be presented by Michael and Sonya Tardif.

Standup Comedy Workshop to be held
LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education will hold a six-week, stand-up comedy workshop starting Thursday, Feb. 28, at Lewiston High School.
Comedian Dawn Hartill will teach the class, which begins at 6 p.m.
Hartill was a member of the first stand-up comedy class at Lewiston Adult Ed and based some of her earliest routines on experiences of being the mother of three teen boys. She has performed in shows throughout Maine and New England.
Students will begin the class with ideas for a set and work with Hartill and classmates to hone their material and delivery. They will perform at Guthrie’s at 115 Middle St. in the early spring as their final exam.

Seniors to resume meeting
AUBURN — The New Auburn Seniors, who have been on break since Dec. 17, 2018, will resume their usual activities beginning Monday, March 4. Upcoming meetings and events will be announced.
