FOXBORO, Mass. — The Twin City Thunder took the first game of their USPHL Presidents Day Showcase schedule Friday morning, defeating the Rochester Monarchs 9-1.

Lewiston native Jeromey Rancourt had a goal and three assists and Zachary Desmarais potted two goals for the Thunder. Nicolas Garneau and Alex Schneider each added a goal and an assist.

The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the contest on goals by Schneider and Etienne Crousle. Joshua Underwood cut the lead in the half, scoring for the Monarchs at the 8:39 mark.

The Thunder’s lead was then stretched out to 6-1 as Rancourt, Garneau, Aleksi Petrow and Desmarais all scored.

Former Lewiston High School standout Cody Doyon scored the lone goal in the second period for the Thunder.

Desmarais potted his 24th goal of the season early in the third period, while Joe Clark notched his first goal of the season to cap the scoring off.

Jaxon Friedman made 20 saves for the victory. Nicholas Schulte and Alex Rose combined to make 33 saves for the Monarchs.

In their second game of the day, the Thunder defeated the Syracuse Stars 4-3 in overtime.

Desmarais scored the overtime winner for his third goal of the day.

Also scoring for Twin City were Derric Trudeau, Erik Throndson and Nicolas Poirier.

L/A Nordiques 17, Cape Cod 4

LEWISTON — Valeri Rykov had himself a night.

The Russian forward had six goals and three assists as the L/A Nordiques defeated the Cape Cod Islanders 17-4 Friday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

 

Defenseman JP Chauvin had himself a hat trick and two assists, while Joshua Sanchez had a goal and four assists. Zack Mullen and Sergei Anisimov each contributed a goal and three assists. Connor Kennedy finished with a goal and a pair of assists, Andrew McCormick had a goal and an assist and Trent Sheldon scored a goal in the victory.

 

Hunter Raye made 15 saves for the Nordiques.

Leevi Kervinen scored a pair of goals for the Islanders. Mike Goroshko and Joshua Dolessio also scored.

Maxim Clouser and Josh Chausse combined to make 45 saves in the loss.
