HALLOWELL — The Harlow presents Young at Art, the 16th annual exhibition of children’s artwork, from Feb. 23 to March 23, at 100 Water St.
Students from kindergarten through eighth grade will have their work displayed in the professional setting. A public reception will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Young at Art will coincide with 50 Years of Art: a solo retrospective exhibition highlighting the work of local artist and art educator Barbara Loken.
50 Years of Art is on view Feb. 15 to March 23 in the upstairs gallery at The Harlow.
Each year The Harlow invites art teachers from elementary and middle schools from throughout the greater Augusta area to select their best student art to showcase in this community celebration of talented art students and of the importance of arts in education. This year is the third that the gallery is integrating home-schooled student artwork in the Young at Art exhibit.
Due to the high volume of visitors for the opening reception for Young at Art, the Gallery asks that participating artists and their families attend according to the following schedule. Families with more than one artist participating can choose to attend whichever time works best for them. Visitors not affiliated with a participating artist are welcome anytime between 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Kindergarten, first and second grades
12:30 to 2 p.m. — Third, fourth and fifth grades
2 to 3:30 p.m. — Sixth, seventh and eighth grades
The Harlow is a membership-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to connecting and celebrating art, artists and community. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information visit harlowgallery.org or call 207-622-3813.
