LEWISTON — The Franco American Collection at the University of Southern Maine’s-Lewiston-Auburn College will celebrate International Women’s Day at 4 p.m. Friday, March 8, with the theme “Home.”

Katie Theriault and Zahra Houssein will lead the presentation and discussion in room 170 at the college at 51 Westminster St.

All are invited to reflect on “What is ‘home’? A place? A past? A person? An idea?”

For women who have come to Lewiston from all over the world, identities, personal choices and historical legacies all influence their understanding of home.

Theriault, of Lewiston, is a graduate of Lewiston High School and Colby College. She recently returned to Lewiston with her husband and children.

Houssein is a native of Djibouti where she taught French and raised her family. She attended the University of Djibouti and the University of Dijon, France. She has made Lewiston her home for the past three years and has been involved in many endeavors as a volunteer. She works at the Immigrant Resource Center of Lewiston.

The public is invited to share their stories of home, listen to the experiences and perspectives of others, and reflect on how to build a shared sense of home that celebrates differences alongside common values and dreams.
