Having read the resolution presented to the Androscoggin County Commission, I am stunned by the animus it has generated.
We are told to rely on the science. Is anyone seriously looking at the science, or just believing the narrative the “the sky is falling’” because it is being repeated hourly?
I will gladly wear a mask if anyone can show me the peer-reviewed science that ordinary masks stop the transmission of viruses — they are only designed to stop bacteria. The science is clear, and available to any seeking truth.
The leadership of the county commission is a breath of fresh air.

Editor’s note: In an exhaustive peer-review of “the use of face masks against COVID-19” published by the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America less than a month ago, a group of 19 scientists have concluded that “The preponderance of evidence indicates that mask wearing reduces transmissibility per contact by reducing transmission of infected respiratory particles in both laboratory and clinical contexts. Public mask wearing is most effective at reducing spread of the virus when compliance is high.”
