LEWISTON — A 15-year-old girl reported missing last Thursday from New Beginnings was found at a Nebraska rest stop late Tuesday night, according to police.
Lt. David St. Pierre said Taylor Hauke, 23, of Vacaville, California, is being held at the Lincoln County Jail in Lincoln, Nebraska, charged with child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Arrangements were being made to get Lanie Nolan back to Maine to reunite with her family.
“The investigation is still ongoing and it is too early to tell if there was any type of abuse or additional crimes that (Hauke) could be charged with,” St. Pierre said.
Hauke and Nolan were found together at a rest area on Interstate 80 in Nebraska, he said.
Police said last week that Nolan, who lives in Oakland but had been staying at the youth shelter at 491 Main St., had been communicating over social media with a 23-year-old from Vacaville.
“We are very pleased that Lanie has been located and that she is safe,” St. Pierre said in a news release. “We would like to acknowledge and thank everyone that assisted with this missing person investigation, including family members, friends and community members, LPD detectives and officers as well as the many dedicated law enforcement professionals who contributed in Lanie being found safe.”
He credited the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Vacaville Police Department, Oakland Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, California’s Attorney General’s Office and the Nebraska State Police as being “vital” in locating Nolan.
