River Arts in Damariscotta will re-open the gallery at 36 Elm St. on Thursday, April 1. With three shows on display, the opening has something for everyone. The River Room features the works of Sandra Chase Morrissey and her son, Lunar Mayor.
Morrissey is a painter from Falmouth who works with acrylics on canvas. Her paintings are brightly colored, energetic, and eye catching. She uses various techniques to apply the paint to the canvas, creating paintings that viewers can feel as well as see. Her most recent series is “Maine’s Guiding Lights,” which are paintings of Maine’s lighthouses and many will be displayed in this show.
Mayor (Michael Morrissey) is an artist from New York City, who has recently relocated to Falmouth. He likes to paint thought provoking works that cause the viewer to contemplate and question. Each painting is its own little world to be explored and filled in by the imagination.
Morrissey and Mayor will be available to meet visitors on opening day as they install their show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 1. Guests are invited to stop by and chat with the artists. This mother and son show will continue for three weeks until April 21.
Also on display at River Arts is the continuation of the wonderful holiday show. Artists have replenished works and there are many new pieces to see. This show runs until April 17.
The Center Room at River Arts opens with an exhibition by the volunteers who do all the heavy lifting at this non-profit gallery. This dedicated and hard working group keeps the gallery operating smoothly as well as creates a diverse range of artwork. This show runs until April 17.
River Arts business hours beginning April 1 are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
