FALMOUTH — On Feb. 25, Jack Hardy was inducted into the Maine Principals Association Hall of Excellence.
Hardy, a 1973 Livermore Falls graduate, taught and coached for 13 years before serving as athletic director at Greely High School in Cumberland Center for 14 years. He later served seven years as assistant principal at Falmouth High before becoming athletic administrator at North Yarmouth Academy. Hardy received the 2000 Athletic Director of the Year Award, the 2004 NFHS National Distinguished Service Award and was named Maine high school track coach of the year in 1987 and 1989.
While coaching, his teams were state champions numerous years in indoor and outdoor track and field.
Hardy served many years on the MPA swim and volleyball committees and was chair of those committees 10 and five years, respectively.
“I deeply value the relationships that I built with all the professionals associated in support of students – teachers, coaches, officials, and administrators. I cherish the relationships made with students while supporting them,” Hardy’s MPA biography reads. “I believe that past students wrote to support my candidacy for this award… I would love for some of their quotes to be read during my introduction.”
“Jack Hardy was instrumental in my success as a student-athlete,” Sarah Jamo, Greely Class of 2002 and current USM softball coach said. “Coming into a new school system for high school and not knowing a single teammate, he made me feel welcomed and that I belonged. He gave me the confidence and motivation to grow as a person and athlete. As a leader he always did the right thing. Jack Hardy was a role model for so many young student-athletes and it was because of his influence I knew I wanted to pursue a career in athletics. Now as a collegiate head coach, I try to model many of the qualities; hard working, fair, empathic, and disciplined I saw Jack display, in my everyday interactions with my players.”
