LEWISTON — COVID-19 cases continue to surge at local schools, with 12 new positives tests reported Monday.
The latest cases affected more than 75 students and staff.
Lewiston Public Schools Superintendent Jake Langlais said:
• A van driver tested positive, resulting in 12 students from four schools going into quarantine.
• One infected student at McMahon Elementary led to nine students and two staff people being identified as close contacts. The return-to-school date for some other McMahon students and staff already in quarantine was extended because of this exposure.
• Montello Elementary had three positives and one presumptive positive. Two other students are in quarantine because their siblings tested positive. There was no known impact on other pupils.
• Lewiston Middle School had two students test positive. Twenty-nine students and one staff person must quarantine through May 7 (six other exposed staffers are fully vaccinated).
• Farwell Elementary had four new student cases from last week that were not previously reported.
• Geiger Elementary had one new positive from April 29 that led to 12 students and no staff being quarantined until May 7.
All of those affected had been notified, Langlais said.
As of Monday, 156 students and 51 staff members had contracted the virus since schools reopened Sept. 14, according to the Lewiston Public Schools website.
