SOUTH PARIS — A Greenwood truck driver is facing a manslaughter charge stemming from a June 2020 fatal crash in Bethel.
An Oxford County grand jury rose Friday with an indictment against Silvian Sweetser, 19, of 6 Osgood Lane, Greenwood.
The indictment charges Sweetser with manslaughter, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. He also faces a lesser felony charge of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, which is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Brent Angevine, 50, of Bethel died in the June 23 crash on Mayville Road, which is Route 2.
Another driver in the three-vehicle crash, Llewelyn Cobb, 65, of Greenwood, was seriously injured.
Oxford County Sheriff’s deputies said Angevine, who was driving a 2008 Honda Element, and Cobb, who drove a 2015 Nissan Frontier, had slowed for a vehicle in front of them that had been pulling into a driveway. Authorities said Sweetser, who was 18 at the time, was driving a 2019 Mack tractor-trailer truck. He failed to slow for the vehicles and struck them from behind.
Angevine died from his injuries at a local hospital; Cobb and Sweetser were treated at the scene and released, authorities said.
