PARIS — On Friday, May14, Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival presented an award for the design of its 2021 Program Brochure.  SLLMF has worked with Virginia Valdes of Oxford Hills Technical School Graphic Design Program for 13 years.  Design of the program is a highlight of the students’ curriculum each spring.

This year’s winner was Culiandra Nero, an Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School senior in her third year of the Graphic Design program. She is an extremely talented artist having received many awards.  Currently Culiandra is taking design courses through Southern Maine Community College and is an Adobe Certified Associate in Graphic Design and Illustration using Adobe Illustrator. She has been named Graphic Design student of the year for the last two years and was a semi-finalist for the prestigious Presidential Scholars Program in Career and Technical Education, one of the nation’s most distinguished honors for graduating high school seniors.

Other prestigious awards include one Scholastic Art and Writing Gold Key and five Silver Keys. In early 2019, her team placed first for the State of Maine in the SkillsUSA Promotional Bulletin Board Competition, after which they continued on to place seventh out of forty plus teams in the national competition. In late 2019, she won The New York Times Editorial Cartoon Contest for her take on China’s control of American markets.

Her work at OHCHS in honors and AP courses has earned her the title of Salutatorian for the class of 2021. Similarly, her work and the awards at Oxford Hills Technical School, has led her to get the top honor and be named as the Tech Student of the Year for the class of 2021. In the fall, she plans to continue her studies and attend Tufts University to pursue computer science and animation.

Lee Bearse, Treasurer of Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival’s Board of Trustees, remarked when bestowing the award “The music festival is very happy to feature the work of this creative and talented young woman who has excelled in so much of what she does. Thank you, Culiandra, for the effort and skill you put into this beautiful design.”
