100 Years Ago: 1921
The returning parade of automobiles last night brought home a weary looking throng of pleasure seekers. The steady stream of cars passing thru the city lasted way into the night and the Lake Grove Electrics were loaded with passengers. Many of the automobiles still carried their flags and bunting from the morning’s parade.
50 Years Ago: 1971
It must have been “Dandelion Wednesday” yesterday judging from the great amount of the white stuff which was floating through residential sections of both Auburn and Lewiston. This has been a “fine dandelion year” with lawns and fields golden with the plants. On Wednesday, it appeared that all the golden dandelions had turned into white fluffy seeds in which the light breeze was blowing over the neighborhoods to plant another crop. Sometimes the air was full of fluff.
25 Years Ago: 1996
Warren G. Galway of 274 Beech Hill! Road, Auburn, has been selected as the 1996 Administrator of the Year by the Maine Music Educators Association. The MMEA is an affiliation of music educators from 200 schools in Maine ranging from kindergarten to the college level. Galway, who is the principal of Biddeford High School, was honored at the annual MMEA banquet in Bangor on May 17. The president of the MMEA said Galway was clearly the unanimous choice of the selection committee, citing his outstanding leadership skills.
