RUMFORD — Voters approved the town’s $9.88 million municipal budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year on Tuesday night.
Town Clerk Beth Bellegarde said 433 votes were cast, but did not provide the margin of approval. The municipal budget is up .76 percent or $74,377 from the 2020-21 fiscal year. Town Manager Stacy Carter said there are no big ticket items planned over the next fiscal year. “We want to make sure we take care of this building (Town Hall). We’ve got some roof repair that needs to be done.”
In September, Rumford’s mill rate was lowered by $7.90 to $22.60 per $1,000 of assessed value from 2019, as a result of the completion of the town’s revaluation.
Meanwhile, article 48, a non-binding poll asking if citizens wanted to opt in to recreational use marijuana through retail stores, manufacturing, cultivating and testing, did not pass.
For the elections, Peter Chase won a third term on the Select Board, defeating challenger Steve Dyment, 262-157.
Abbey Cases Rice received 55 write-in votes to earn a three-year seat on the RSU 10 Board of Directors.
Dieter Kreckel won another three-year seat on the Finance Committee. Write-in Brad Adley will join him on the committee.
