The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South and the Cumberland County and York County sheriff’s offices are investigating an assault that left a woman dead in a home on Dow Road in Standish on Wednesday.
No arrests were made, but the Maine Attorney General’s Office has been notified. Marc Malon, spokesman for the office, referred all questions to Maine State Police.
Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Amanda Brown of Standish, Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release Wednesday night. Brown’s body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine her cause of death.
Police went to the home on Dow Road around 9:48 a.m. The road was shut down to traffic all day and remained closed Wednesday evening. Moss said there is no danger to the public.
Moss characterized the police response “as part of an assault investigation,” but did not elaborate.
Around the same time Wednesday morning, the Maine State Police Tactical Team, the York County Sheriff’s Department, Waterboro EMS and state police negotiators responded to a home near the intersection of Sunrise Lane and Mayfair Way in North Waterboro, Moss said. On Wednesday afternoon, a man was placed in protective custody and transported to a local hospital, Moss said.
Moss was asked if the two cases were connected.
“I can tell you that we will not be connecting the two cases as of tonight,” she said in an email.
No additional information was available Wednesday night.
