WEST PARIS — Thursday evening, selectmen discussed if the Fire Chief Troy Billings could park a firetruck at his home instead of at the station. Billings explained he could get to an emergency faster with the truck at his home, and the gear inside it. He could leave immediately. If he arrived sooner, he could prevent more damage from occurring. Right now, Billings has to drive all the way to the department and back. One selectman played devil’s advocate, saying the disadvantage was the public could see it parked at Billing’s home.
Selectmen decided to table the discussion, contingent on what the insurance company would say.
Billings lead the discussion again with the purchase of a Dodge pick-up truck for the Highway. The Selectman discussed the numerous factors at hand. There was the potential idea to lease the purchase. However, if they chose this route, how long would the lease be for, and would the interest be high?
They questioned if there was any sort of special for non-profits. As these questions continued to pop up, selectman decided they would continue to investigate the purchase of the Dodge pick-up truck for the Highway Department.
In other news, many people have not received their property tax bills. There are properties listed with no names. Because of this, people are being billed for property which is not theirs anymore. One selectman motioned to give one of these couples back their money, but there is more investigating to be done.
The meeting closed with the discussion of Billings asking selectmen to consider the town buying a repeater for next year. He argued that right now, for fire personnel to know what’s going on, they must call into the Fire Department. It would be more convenient if they heard it through the repeater on their radios. Selectmen said they could keep calling in, or potentially search for an app that might help them.
