CANAAN — Authorities on Monday were continuing to search for a victim and suspect in a reported stabbing overnight on Hinckley Road.
Somerset County Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell said that a call came in Monday at 11:38 p.m. from a woman reporting that a person had been stabbed at the house she was at in the area of 90 Hinckley Road. The caller claimed that she did not see the stabbing take place.
“We don’t know who the suspect is, we suspect (the caller) might be withholding the name of the true victim,” Mitchell said Tuesday.
The situation is isolated, he added, and there is no threat to the community. Mitchell said it appears that both parties involved knew each other.
When police and medical services arrived to the scene, the victim had taken off.
“There was blood at the scene to reflect somebody was stabbed,” Mitchell said. “It’s still under investigation to determine the victim and suspect. We’ve got detectives on the scene working it. We suspect a resolution in the near future.”
He added that the agency is following a few different leads on the incident and that the victim apparently has not yet gone to a hospital to be treated. Detective David Cole of the sheriff’s office is spearheading the efforts.
“We’ve got some suspects but won’t release any of that information yet,” Mitchell said. “We’ve got some names for detectives to follow up on and we’re trying to find these people.”
