The Sweden Food Pantry sponsors a raffle each year to raise money in conjunction with Sweden Days, held the first weekend in August. Total raffle sales were $1,800.
Tom Bingham of Nutly, New Jersey, and Sweden, Maine, was the winner of the $900 prize — 50% of the funds raised through the sale of raffle tickets. Bingham immediately decided to return his winnings to the Sweden Food Pantry.
“We are neighbors helping neighbors. Tom’s decision to return his winnings to the Sweden Food Pantry allows us to do more for our clients,” said Linda Bradley, executive director, according to a news release from the pantry.
The Sweden Food Pantry is open the first and third Wednesdays each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located in the basement of the Sweden Community Church on Route 93 in Sweden’s four corners area, it serves on average 40 families representing about 120 individuals during each pantry opening.
The pantry has served more than 11 communities, but the bulk of the families are from Bridgton, Fryeburg, Lovell, Sweden and Waterford. The mailing address is 137 Bridgton Road, Sweden, ME 04040.
