When a story appeared in a recent edition of the Lewiston Sun-Journal about Claudette Sirois’ one wish, to see her dying sister in Arizona, it struck a chord of compassion in Farmington’s Rent-A-Center employee, Nancy Pinkham. Sirois lives at Clover Health Care Facility in Auburn. Her body is contorted from cerebral palsy and she spends her day in a motorized wheelchair that she controls with the little motion left in her right foot. She cannot speak. A trip to Arizona will be a big economic and physical challenge. Pinkham’s response was, “My company should be able to do something to help.“ She shared the article with her manager, Mark Cotter who readily agreed that Wilson Enterprises of Maine (doing business as Rent a Center) could support. Rent-A-Center’s employees decided to donate a light-weight video camera for Sirois to take on her trip when she visits her sister in April. Two Clover employees have volunteered to make the trip with her. The video camera will make it possible for Sirois to re-live and enjoy her memories long after she returns. It was delivered to her in August. Rent-A-Center is a rent-to-own company that is actively involved in supporting community projects. There has been good community support in helping Sirois reach her goal.
