The appointment of Miss Mildred Whitney of Auburn to serve under the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Leo A. Hall is the first of this kind in Auburn. Miss Whitney’s selection is generally commended because she has been in the general field, doing private nursing of all kinds, for 11 years, and has a most valuable experience in back of her. Miss Whitney is a native of Auburn.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Miss Mary Dallydaite of Flint, Mich., a former member of the staff of the Lewiston-Auburn Young Women’s Christian Association, will be a special guest at a meeting of the Rainbow Auxiliary to be held at the YWCA residence on Pine Street, Lewiston, at 7:30 Wednesday evening. Miss Dallydaite was International Institute secretary of the YWCA when she was in Lewiston some years ago. The Institute, then affiliated with the YWCA, is now a separate organization, and Miss Dailydaite was associated with it at Flint until her retirement several years ago.
25 Years Ago: 1996
(from a Journal photo) Marcus Corey of East Wilton displays a kangaroo skin he got while working in the Fiji Islands of the South Pacific this summer. Corey, a 14-year-old student at Mt, Blue High School, was part of a construction crew that worked on a medical building for the Fijians. He described his experiences last week at a presentation at East Wilton Union Church.
