Congress has begun important discussions of the second infrastructure bill, including significant funding to address the impacts of changing climate.

It is hard not to notice that droughts, hurricanes and flooding are now impacting wide areas of our country. Spending for the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration and wildfires is off the charts.

People who are not on board yet with the need to address these facts may be concerned about the likelihood that immigrants will need to come here to escape disasters and future rising sea levels. I understand that there are already folks moving to Maine to get away from wildfires in the west.

I would rather invest now to prevent negative impacts than deal with the results of doing nothing in only a few years. Delay will only increase the cost to our pocketbooks and our society.
