100 Years Ago: 1921
Members and prospective members of the Martindale Country Club are asked to attend the gathering at the clubhouse on Wednesday, the 21st. A golf tournament will be held in the afternoon, and a dance in the evening, and everybody has been assured of a good time.
50 Years Ago: 1971
The Maine State Cosmetologists Association will meet at The Round House Motor Inn, Auburn on Sunday. As president of the Lewiston-Auburn Cosmetologist Association which is posting the meeting, Michael Gabriel is general chairman. A business meeting is scheduled for ten o’clock and final plans for the State convention to be held in Portland. Oct.. 16. 17 and 18. Coffee and refreshments will be served. At one o’clock following the noon luncheon, Mrs. Linda Spugnardi of Lewiston. a member of the Maine Hair Fashion Committee and Instructor of Cosmetology at the school will report on the national convention at Kansas City where she represented Maine in the hair styling competition. She will also demonstrate the “touchable collection” of styles for the fall and winter, introduced at the convention.
25 Years Ago: 1996
The Franco-American War Veterans Inc., Post 31, will host the 64th national convention of the veterans Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Ramada. Approximately 300 delegates and guests from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine are expected. Registration for delegates will be held Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and opening ceremonies will begin at 7:45 p.m., with welcome remarks by national commander Louis Robicheau and national president Susan Lavoie. A variety show and dancing will follow until midnight.
