LEWISTON — Fire Chief Brian Stockdale will leave his job next month, according to interim City Administrator Heather Hunter.
His resignation is effective Oct. 27, according to a statement released Monday morning.
“I believe that now is the right time to move on to the next chapter of my life and pursue other opportunities,” Stockdale wrote in the statement.
Stockdale has been chief since July 2017.
A native of Boston, he began his career in the fire service in Hope Mills, North Carolina, where he attained the rank of captain, according to City Administrator Ed Barrett.
After relocating to Maine, he served as a firefighter-paramedic for Brunswick and was chairman of the Department of Medical Assisting at Southern Maine Community College. For seven years before coming to Lewiston he was fire and rescue chief in Topsham.
Assistant Fire Chief Mark Caron will be appointed interim chief, according to Hunter’s statement.
