Photographs published in Boston dailies yesterday showed Governor Baxter seated with several other New England Governors enjoying a ride through Springfield, Mass., atop a stage-coach of ancient vintage.
50 Years Ago: 1971
An authentic railroad bed was laid out this morning off Sabattus Street in Lewiston and within a few days three retired railroad cars will be placed there to become the Chuck Wagon Railroad Restaurant. Among the dignitaries at the rail laying ceremony this morning were Rep. Louis Jalbert, D-Lewiston, who recently took a post with the executive staff of the Maine Central Railroad; Bill Dumais, owner of the property; Paul Paradis, Chuck Wagon owner, and his five-year old son Paul Jr.; Francis J. O’Connell, Lewiston Economic Development Director; and Charles A. Buteau, Lewiston Building inspector and contractor for the project.

In honor of Androscoggin Home Health Services’ 30th anniversary, the Oxford office on Pottle Road hosted an open house Wednesday afternoon. Among staff members present to welcome and inform guests were Shirley Powell, community relations manager; Gail Castonguay, nursing supervisor, Esther Proctor, nursing supervisor; Gloria Caoutte, home health aide supervisor; and Eleanor Tracy, past chairwoman of the Board of Directors. At the open house, informational brochures were available along with an attractive display of photographs. The Oxford office is one of five in the tri-county area of Oxford, Androscoggin, and Franklin counties.
