FAIRFIELD — A woman was arrested this week and charged with burglary after police say she broke into a home and stored the items she stole in the woods nearby.
Fairfield police took a burglary report Wednesday around 6:15 p.m. at a home on Ohio Hill Road, according to a news release from the police department. The residents said they came home and found several items missing, including some jewelry.
The initial call was investigated by Sgt. Matthew Wilcox and Officer Dakota Willhoite. Wilcox returned to the residence Thursday about 11 a.m. and discovered a woman retrieving items from nearby woods. It was determined she was collecting the stolen material after it had been placed in the woods following the burglary, authorities said.
After police interviewed the woman, identified as Rebecca O’Clair, 38, of Fairfield, officers drafted a search warrant for her home. The search was executed and several items from the burglary were recovered, authorities said.
O’Clair was arrested and taken to the Somerset County Jail. She has been charged with burglary and criminal mischief. A court date has been set for Dec. 15.
