ROCKPORT — The Maine Media Workshops + College weekly Alumni Lecture Series is scheduled to continue with its second virtual lecture, “Working Together: Louis Draper and the Kamoinge Workshop,” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13.
The event will profile photographer Draper and his work as a member of the workshop, a collective of Black photographers established in New York City in the early 1960s, and an integral part of the Black Arts Movement.
The Working Together exhibit chronicles the early days of the Kamoinge Workshop during a period of heightened social unrest, as well as how members developed professionally alongside each other while also cultivating independent careers. The exhibit was organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and was recently shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The lecture is hosted by Dr. Sarah Eckhardt, associate curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, in conjunction with the Social Equity and Inclusion committee.
The series will run through Dec. 14, featuring stimulating conversations on a wide array of topics in photo, film, book arts and writing.
