The Musical Literary Cub will be the scene for the first meeting of the season of the: Maine Dance Teachers Association, Sunday. Charles Kelley of New York City will teach an open acrobatic class for teachers and students. He will also teach two Jazz dances, one for teachers and one for students. Susan Farrar, of Maine’s club will teach some different, fine interactive classes. Brad Adams, also of Maine’s club faculty, will teach with his excellent tap.
25 Years Ago: 1996
French Canadian dance master Benoit Bourque of Montreal will offer public instruction in the basics of traditional Quebecois tap dancing, or “gigueing,” Monday at Bates College’s Alumni Gymnasium. Two hour-long workshops have been planned: a 6 p.m. session, which is geared to participants with some previous experience in Percussive dance (step, tap or clog dancing, and a 7:15 p.m. occasion for beginners. Bourque is in the area for several days as part of a community residency program coordinated by the Franco Folk Arts Cooperative of Maine. His activities thus far have included performances at L-A College and at Bates College, where he also presented lecture-demonstrations for French language classes. He and his musician partner Gaston Bernard will be visiting area middle and high schools later this week.
