DEAR SUN SPOTS: The summer growing season may be over, but the Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store is inviting plant lovers to add some lush greenery to their indoor spaces by shopping at the store’s second annual Autumn Houseplant Sale on Wednesday, Oct. 27. The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the walkway in front of the shop at 245 Center St. in Auburn in the former Roak Mall.

Offerings will include both Thanksgiving and Christmas cactus, African violets, prayer plants, Moses-in-a-Basket, Swedish ivy, spider plants, wax plants, among others, with proceeds going to support patient services at Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice.

For those wanting to support the Thrift Store hands-on, applications are being accepted for volunteers to assist as both sales associates and donation attendants at the Auburn shop as well as at the agency’s new Thrift Store in Augusta. For more information about applying, contact Sharon Blake, Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store retail coordinator, at 207-312-5092. More info about the store is available online.

Many thanks! — Cindy, Lewiston

ANSWER: Dear readers, here’s a chance to shop for the holidays and benefit a worthy cause!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Sunday, Oct. 10, around 4:30 p.m. I had finished shopping at Marden’s in Lewiston and headed back toward Shaw’s. I had bought several items at Marden’s and when I closed my hatchback I didn’t realize it didn’t close completely and several items slid out under the door onto the highway. I didn’t notice until I got to Shaw’s and went to the back to get some reusable bags and realized I had lost some items.

I know of at least three costumes for Halloween. I can’t tell you which three because I bought several. I do know one of them was a red and yellow pop dress. If anyone stopped to pick them up I would appreciate a call. I have a nephew who lives in Auburn and could arrange for him to meet you. I love your column and have used it once before but read it daily. Call 207-778-6779. Thank you. — PDK, Farmington

ANSWER: I hope someone can help by returning these costumes. Halloween is coming soon!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband has a Hahn-Eclipse rototiller. He has been looking for another one for years. It can be one that runs or for parts. Do you have any idea where to find one? We would pick it up. Thanks. — No name, Livermore

ANSWER: Hahn-Eclipse of Evansville, Indiana, manufactured lawn and garden equipment from the late 1940s to the late 1990s. If anyone can help find this brand of rototiller, please let me know!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just finished reading your article in (Thursday’s) Sun Spots from the woman looking for someone to brush her cat. 4 Paws Pet Grooming at 675 Main St. in Lewiston used to be at 56 Nickerson Ave. in Auburn. — An Avid Reader, No town

ANSWER: I apologize for mistakenly reporting that both locations were still open.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is in response to a request from one of your readers for someone to iron clothes. I am located in Lewiston and would be willing to provide this service. I can be reached at 207-754-4413 for more information. — No name
