LEWISTON — A man was burned out of his home early Friday morning in a fire investigators say was due to an electrical short.
The blaze at 22 Shank St. was reported at about 4:30 a.m., bringing firefighters from Lewiston and Auburn to the scene.
Lewiston Fire Inspector Paul Ouellette said the fire started on an outside wall of the single-family home, then burned into the attic and through the roof.
Kameron Cass, who lives in the two-story home, escaped without injury, Ouellette said, but the fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages and Cass was unable to return.
After investigating the blaze, Ouellette declared the fire accidental, saying it started with an electrical short in an outside light fixture.
Shank Street is off Webster Street, across from Scribner Boulevard.
