BETHEL — As a kid, senior Nicole Cox had broken many bones. Now she’s taken that rough patch and turned it into a potential career choice. She wants to study radiology come college.
“I had a lot of broken bones when I was a kid, and I just thought it was really cool how they could see what was wrong with me,” says Nicole. “I’m just so interested in human biology and anatomy. I just think it’s really interesting how it all works.”
Nicole keeps busy as a student athlete, holding down a job, while also keeping up with her grades. One teacher said in the student of the month write up, “She is extremely dedicated to her work, she doesn’t shy away from a challenge.” Discussing her ability to focused and manage everything, she says casually, “I don’t have that much time to do my schoolwork … between sports and then I work a lot.
“Last year, I was working like four days a week at Dunkin’ because they would call me in a lot. On top of that, with sports, you just have to [have] really tight [time] management. I have my satellite teacher. I love her, Ms. Blauss. I feel like she’s someone who believes in you, but she also thinks that you can always do better than what you’ve done. So I just feel like she really pushes me and keeps me in the game.”
To better understand Nicole’s drive for success, Nicole explains she has a twin sister,
“She also pushes me out of my comfort zones because like I feel like when you have a twin, it’s like everything’s competition to like do the best … that definitely keeps you on your toes!”
Nicole also plays field hockey and basketball. In field hockey, Nicole made a splash when she finished as a top scorer with five goals as left forward. She scored them against a team that no one had scored on all season.
“So that was like probably like the biggest ‘wow’ moment for me,” Nicole says.
Nicole has been playing basketball since freshman year, swinging into the varsity season since she was a freshman.
“Last year, we didn’t get to play but I’m really confident that we’re gonna do pretty good this year,” says Nicole. “I think that we have a good team that like really cares about the sport, and we all want to like succeed.”
Regarding success and time management and taking the hard road vs. easy road, Nicole says, “I think that you can’t just lay back and just take easy classes. I think that’s boring. If you really try to push yourself, you get more involved in your schoolwork, [that] makes you more successful, in my opinion.”
