ROCKPORT — Maine Media Workshops + College’s weekly online Alumni Lecture Series comes to a close with the last lecture of the series, “Little Black Boy,” scheduled for 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Photographer and 2021 Arnold Newman Prize winner Rashod Taylor will discuss his winning photo series, insights into his practice and how his work speaks to the Black American experience.
Maine Media Provost Elizabeth Greenberg will host the lecture.
Taylor is a fine art and portrait photographer whose work addresses themes of family, culture, legacy and the Black American experience. He has earned attention for his ongoing longform photo series, “Little Black Boy,” including a recent feature in Forbes.
In the series, he documents his son’s life while examining the Black American experience and fatherhood. He uses the frameworks and methods allied with the history of fine art portraiture to contemplate his own family’s narrative within contemporary America. His photographs are deeply rooted in photographic traditions while also breaking new ground.
The Alumni Lecture Series features conversations on a wide array of topics in photo, film, book arts, and writing.
