Harry C. Ostrander of Yonkers, N.Y., gave one of the most entertaining and picturesque lectures on travel Friday evening ever heard by a Bates audience. He took for his subject “Where East Is West,” and by the aid of hand-painted stereopticon slides and a few odd reels of well-selected motion pictures drew a delightfully realistic conception of life, costumes, and scenery in China and Japan. The large recreation room in Chase Hall was crowded with students and townspeople who braved the inclemency of the weather to attend and were wonderfully well paid for their effort. The audience was pleased with the pictures and talk about Japan, and it was not an uncommon thing to hear a person remark after the entertainment: “I am going there someday!”
