The Men’s Bible class of the Community Society, North Monmouth, Maine, which was organized a few months ago, has become an important factor in the social and religious life of the town. Starting with a few loyal and interested persons it has grown steadily in influence, numbers and enthusiasm.
50 Years Ago: 1972
Mrs. Jeanette Smith of Auburn, coordinator of volunteers working with Birthright which works with women involved with problems arising from unwanted pregnancies, will address the Lewiston-Auburn Cosmetologists meeting Tuesday. She is also expected to show a film. The meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. at Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion
25 Years Ago: 1997
Daphne Merrill of Field Avenue, Auburn, has received a letter of commendation from the executive director of the Maine Sardine Council, relative to an article which she wrote in observance of the 100th year of the sardine industry in Maine. The letter states in part that her article was ‘‘one of the best and most complete single articles on this industry ever seen.” It appeared in the Lewiston Evening Journal, to which Mrs. Merrill is an occasional contributor, as well as to other media. The author of two books of poetry who has contributed to several non-fiction books on Maine, she is currently employed in the English Department of the University of Maine C.E.D. Program in Auburn.
