Should Maine’s police be answering mental health calls?
New details in the murders of Troy and Dulsie Varney reveal that the couple called the police to report Patrick Maher’s “strange behavior” hours before Maher allegedly stabbed them to death. Troy warned police “When he kills somebody tonight, it’s on you.” But police that day could not find legal grounds to arrest Maher or bring him in for mental health treatment. A new proposed bill aims to change that. But should police be handling calls for mental health at all? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
