LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston recently promoted two employees and hired three more.

Mark Anderson has been promoted to assistant fire chief. Beginning his career as a volunteer firefighter at age 18, he started with the Lewiston Fire Department in 2005 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2017. After high school, he moved to Maine to pursue an associate degree in fire science at Southern Maine Community College.

Over the past several years, he has pursued many teaching and leadership opportunities within the department and developed the department’s ice water rescue curriculum and delivered several other specialty-training programs. Anderson also volunteers with a peer-counseling group designed to support first responders.

He holds several distinctions, including Fire Officer I, II, III, IV; Fire Instructor I; Firefighter I & II; National Incident Management Systems 100, 200 and 700> He is EMT-Advanced, a tech and trainer for ice water rescue, a red card-certified wildland firefighter; and is a hazardous materials technician.

Officer Brian Bourgoin was promoted to police detective. He began his service with the department in 2009. He served as a patrol officer and a field training officer tasked with training new officers. He was previously assigned to the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration as a task force officer for about four years investigating complex drug crimes. Bourgoin is also an active member of the Lewiston Police hockey team.

Amanda Grenier was hired as fire prevention clerk for the Lewiston Fire Department. She was born and raised in Lewiston, graduated from Husson University and most recently worked for the Oxford County Probate Court in South Paris.

Kon Maiwan was hired as Lewiston’s economic development specialist. He grew up in Lewiston, was chairman of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, went to college in Atlanta and worked with the city of Atlanta in a broad variety of roles. They included customer service representative with the Department of Transportation and vice chairman of the Atlanta University Center Neighborhood Association, which included economic development ombudsman duties.

Osvaldo Francisco was hired as a caseworker with the Social Services Department. Francisco is fluent in English and Portuguese.
