Elsie Gawler and Ethan Tichler will perform at the Oasis of Music beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.
Gawler met Tischler at Maine Fiddle Camp in 2016 and from there they grew a musical connection that eventually turned into a partnership and musical duo in 2019. The pair continues to write, play, and record their own original songs and tunes. Together they create a rich original sound that is alive with their love for the music they make together.
Gawler is well-known by her musical associations with the Gawler Family, the Gawler Sisters and Childsplay. Playing cello, fiddle and banjo, she performs folk instrumentals and songs that are traditional, covered and original. Her recent CD Sweet as Honey showcases her songwriting talents.
Tichler shares that he is “a Maine-based musician/educator with roots in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. For the last many years, I’ve been teaching, performing, and recording music, mainly in Burlington, Vermont, and midcoast Maine. Alongside my own solo projects, I delight in playing with Elsie Gawler as Elsie & Ethan, and with the Gawler Sisters and Gawler Family as a whole.” Tichler also has a recent CD of his own songs to his credit called “Across the Waking Skies.”
The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. COVID restrictions of optional mask-wearing and social distancing are observed. The concerts are held in the downstairs chapel. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
