WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris plans to hold February worship services at 9 a.m. Sundays at 208 Main St. in West Paris.
For the present, attendees are requested to wear masks during the worship service, but are still singing to the music of Tom Coolidge.
The Feb. 6 service, “God is Near,” is based on the story “The Card Above the Bed” by James Herriot. In the story, a dying woman is tormented because someone told her that pets do not have souls and therefore cannot go to heaven. She anxiously asks Herriot, her veterinarian, his opinion on the matter. This worship service is led by frequent guest speaker Cynthia Reedy.
“Lookin’ for Love in All the Wrong Places,” led by Rev. Fayre Stephenson, is set for Feb. 13. County singer Johnny Lee wrote the wonderful song “Lookin’ for Love in All the Wrong Places” with the lyric “I’ll bless the day I discover another heart lookin’ for love.” On this Sunday, the day before Valentine’s Day, the church will explore some aspects of the quest for love.
On Feb. 20, “Joy — Finding It and Sharing It” will be led by guest speaker Michael Miclon, a professional comedic entertainer who will discuss the topic of finding joy and sharing joy with others. Michael will share how he has discovered how to create joy in his own life and how he has worked to spread it to others on and off the stage.
“Repairing Our Mistakes with Love,” led by Stephenson is planned for Feb. 27. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa was created to investigate decades of gross human rights in that country. Their commission succeeded. The talk delves into whether the U.S. could have such a commission to address its own human rights violations, and how it might achieve justice and reconciliation.
