I thank Larry Gilbert for his letter about the cost of war on civilians (“When wars occur, civilians suffer most,” Feb. 15).
The war that the Vietnamese call “The American War” resulted in more deaths and casualties than anyone has ever been able to figure out. Most likely, over 1.3 million. I encourage people to check any source they can find. No matter the numbers, it was not good for the people of Vietnam.
And how about the long war in Afghanistan? It hasn’t been very good for them either. We will never know how many deaths and casualties resulted from that war, or as the result of the recent botched withdrawal.
And how about the people of Iraq and Iran?
And now we are going to help the people of Ukraine? May the universe protect them while the arms merchants make their profits.
