Sanford and Mattanawcook Academy emerged as champions Tuesday at the wrestling duals team state championships at Fryeburg Academy.
Sanford worked its way through the Class A bracket by defeating Camden Hills in the quarterfinals and Noble in the semifinals before beating Kennebunk in the final, 58-21.
Kennebunk edged Oxford Hills by two points (37-35) in the Class A semifinals after Oxford Hills eliminated Bonny Eagle in the quarterfinals, 40-36. Kennebunk knocked out Windham/Gray-New Gloucester/Westbrook 45-28 in the first round.
Mattanawcook, which captured its first state championship in the traditional format on Saturday, added another title with a 54-30 victory over Morse in the Class B duals final.
Mattanawcook earned its spot in the final with a 48-28 semifinal victory over Wells. Morse, meanwhile, advanced on a tiebreaker after battling to a 42-42 draw with Mountain Valley.
That draw was settled by the sixth tiebreaker, which is the number of matches forfeited. Morse conceded in just one weight class, while Mountain Valley forfeited at four weights.
The Falcons got semifinal wins from Miles Smith, Nate Gamache, Kaden Paaso, Jonah Byam, Tresdon Mills and Gabe Winson.
In a 45-28 quarterfinal win over Bucksport, Mountain Valley got victories from Gamache, Paaso, Mills, Vinnie Duguay and Lucas Libby.
Mattanawcook’s closest match was in its quarterfinal — a 48-36 win over York.
• Because of an expected snowstorm on Friday, the New England qualifying tournament at Morse High has been postponed until Saturday.
The top three finishers in each weight class qualify to represent Maine at the New England championships March 4-5 in Providence, Rhode Island.
