Robert Porter says we are not a democracy (“America a constitutional republic, not democracy,” Feb. 17). We are a democratically-represented republic. His use of the word “overlord” tells us of his contempt for current representatives in Washington.
Winston Churchill said that democracy was the most complicated, unworkable, easily corrupted form of government. Except that it works better than anything else through the world’s history.
Porter’s big lie is that it always ends in dictatorship. That only happens when the will of the people is ignored. Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco and Joseph Stalin were not popularly elected.
Our great experiment is alive only as long as we pay attention. Our greatest achievement is what we made with so many differing people.
E Pluribus Unum.
