Many Mainers drive hundreds of miles a week for work, particularly in the rural areas. Families with children also have the added driving of their kids to activities.

Gas prices are so high and predicted to go even higher, which will trigger even higher food prices. My husband travels to work and fuel costs are double over last year.

This is unsustainable for a growing family. What do we cut out? Travel to work? Food? Heat? Any reduction in gas prices, even if temporary, will be a welcome relief.

I thank Rep. Laurel Libby for her compassion toward families, and I appreciate her for introducing a bill to suspend Maine’s gas tax in the Maine Legislature.

I hope the Legislature sees the sense in this and passes it.
