LEWISTON — The City Council will decide Tuesday where to put a large tank in Veterans Memorial Park off Main Street.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.

Councilors plan to authorize the L&A Veterans Council to accept a decommissioned tank from the Army Donations Program Office as a monument for display in the parking area next to the park, according to the meeting agenda.

The Veterans Council will pay for shipping and installation and get assistance from the Public Works Department to prepare the site. It has expressed its desire to have the tank on a concrete pad in the park. It has also pushed back against having picnic tables in the park, suggesting they be put in Kennedy Park instead.

Acquisition of the tank is pending approval of qualification paperwork from the city, according to the agenda.
